In His Own Words

About him

Right, first, a promise: if, after reading my profile, you decide to get in touch I shall, in return, offer myself as your PPF (Purely Platonic Friend). As such, you may call upon me to take you out to dinner/theatre/art gallery/museum/walk along the South Bank, etc., etc. You may also invite me to meet friends/parents/children/ex-husbands or boyfriends, etc., etc. In other words: anything that makes YOU feel good. In return, I shall be immensely witty/companionable/gregarious/possessed of indefatigable listening prowess/well dressed/sexy/butch/smooth/a bit like chocolate. I shall NOT have designs upon your person but will, at all times, behave in manner of said PPF (above).

Second, a notion: if, after all the above turns out to be going swimmingly and well beyond wildest expectation of both parties, we may, by mutual agreement, move me to role of SMTPPF (Slightly More Than Purely Platonic Friend). This does not involve phoning The Sun.

Thirdly a warning (sadly): for any of this to work you will need to avail yourself of vast quantities of introspection, as in, 'Do I REALLY want to try this?' (NB: Please note I didn't write, 'Am I really so DESPERATE that I want to try this?' Reason being, I don't see 'it' as desperate at all...).

Finally, the denouement: I broke my neck in a skiing accident in 1971 (I was 17) and am in a wheelchair. BOOM! Fetch the brandy, drink, siddown. OK? Read on...

The technical stuff: born in the Netherlands; raised in the Swiss Alps (Klosters), schooled at, inter alia, Harrow; post-accident educated and emancipated, twice, at Oxford; worked variously as therapist, TV producer, press officer, social worker, charity director, HR consultant and, currently, perpetual voluntary sector operative as hyperactive CV has frightened off post-banking crash employers.

About his ideal match

Cont'd./...

I've seen the world - from Canada to Japan, Ethiopia to Australia and lived in San Francisco for a few years during Thatcher's 80's and, more recently, in Costa Rica.

It doesn't make a heap of difference to me that I'm disabled: I've had a ridiculously full life this far with, perhaps, a few more relationships than is strictly speaking necessary and harbour mild regrets over not marrying and having children (with whom I get on phenomenally well as they are not prone to making value judgements too quickly!).

I don't make an ass of myself in public, I don't have two heads and I don't embarrass anyone but fools. Oh, and I've been known to be very amusing company.

My ideal match:
I'm a die-hard romantic with a smidge of pessimistic realist tendencies, yet I still believe in finding a soul mate: she's strong, dependable and funny - like me!
