In His Own Words

About him

I like to think of myself as open minded with diverse tastes and a willingness to explore.

As you might expect I enjoy theatre, usually fringe, Young Vic/Orange Tree, and occasionally the NT. Also museums and galleries, both mainstream and the less well-known. I have a list if you want to join me. Indie films are my preference. I like eating out and am willing to experiment. City walks are always a pleasure.

I must admit I am urban, love London, but exploratory outside. I would love to get to know other parts of the UK better. I enjoy learning about the social histories of places. Kings Lynn had more than I expected.

Have travelled but, apart from a few long distance places I now prefer Europe in which I include the UK, though I am still interested in the world outside.

I publish textbooks for schools in Pakistan, to which work I am very committed, hopefully helping the students’ education through better textbooks. I now only manage the publishing side. It is my company. As with all start-ups (over 20 yrs old now), the commitment is still there though I am finally learning to let go.

I am lucky to have a range of friends from school, uni and beyond and, importantly, have made friends of friends. I have a large, loving family. I think I am easy-going though my friends may not always agree. Is that not what friends are for? I make an effort with people. I like them. I think it is reciprocated.

I dog walk with friends - their dogs. I am a governor for a specialist school for the deaf. I also brush up well, so I am told, despite the photographs. I am an average cook but I like to entertain. It’s the company, the conversation, the friendships. I could read more. I have a large garden which I enjoy developing.

Happy in myself but I feel that there could be just a bit more.

About his ideal match

Obviously a similar outlook on life helps. Someone who is generous and warm. Curious to explore and open to new experiences. Who feels that there are still things they would like to do in life. Has their own opinions and foibles and is prepared to put up with mine. Takes a positive attitude to life.
